First Post! Welcome to The Rambling Truck Camper

Thanks for visiting this page! The Rambling Truck Camper is meant to be a spinoff of our main camping page — Dirt N’ Smores. I created this space because I have A LOT to say about my new OVRLND CAMPERS truck camper + 1st Gen Toyota Tundra and didn’t want to clutter up the main site.

How we have the interior currently setup

So this is like a micro-blog that will have short, concise posts daily or weekly showcasing all the small details and things I do to the camper. Occasionally I’ll have some big posts with lots of information.

As mentioned before I chose OVRLND Campers for my build. I considered the Tune M1, FWC Project M, ORU Designs, and Topo Topper when looking at fully squared pop up truck campers and much of this content will be helpful to those owners and communities as well. Thngs like the lower area build out, keeping it warm, and awesome destinations will pertain to all versions of these lightweight truck campers.

On the way home with our brand new camper!

Why Choose OVRLND Campers?

First off, I wanted something lightweight and strong. These campers are made of all aluminum and weight in around 350lbs. That’s absolutely fantastic. The amount of customization options are bigger than a secret In N Out menu and I had a lot of ideas in my head that other manufacturers simply wouldn’t offer. To name a few

  • Asymmetrical barn doors make it so I only have to open one door when climbing in and is wide enough for the kids to load their hockey bags (not just for camping).
  • Taller barn door height is great so I wouldn’t be bumping my head as much and also loading tall items is super easy.
  • Extra cabover height allows me to store a 4 inch mattress, pillows, blankets, and whatever bedding we have. The standard height is 8 inches and I paid extra to make that 11 inches.
  • Custom windows, hatches, and positioning of all of them. I got a driver side flip up hatch, passenger side slider window, and small slider on the rear barn door.
  • 8020 tracks on the smaller barn door and unistrut rails on the roof.

There are plenty more customizations I’ll end up talking about here but those are the big ones.

The team over at OVRLND Campers were super patient with the 100 emails I sent that included probably 200 questions. Reviews of their camper on various internet groups and forums sold me on their build quality and attention to detail.

1st Gen Tundra + OVRLND Camper is a match made in heaven

Lastly, each unit is 100% custom made for your truck in Flagstaff, Arizona. Not many companies offer this type of camper for a 1st gen Tundra since it has such a unique bed size (approx. 63Wx74L) so that was a big factor.

The truck is rather new to me as well. I purchased this 2006 Toyota Tundra Double Cab in September of 2023 and the camper was installed in February of 2024.

We cannot wait to take this on some epic family (of four) adventures and share the experiences with you.

Happy Camping everybody!
