How I added a magnetic bug screen to my OVRLND Camper — works on any truck camper or van setup

I’ve been getting lots of questions about the bug screen off the rear of my truck camper. It has a magnetic screen opening so you can easily pass through. Besides my OVRLND camper, this setup works great for most truck campers including the Project M, Oru Designs, Topo Toppers, GFC, etc. You’ll see a lot of camper vans running a magnetic screen door as well.

When adding a magnetic bug screen to your truck camper the first thing you want to do is find a screen that closely matches the width of the opening. I measured out the width of the opening on the back of my camper and found a magnetic door screen on Amazon that was almost dead on

This specific magnetic screen door by Yotache offers a ton of sizes to choose from. For my first gen Tundra and OVRLND Camper I purchased the 64″W x 80″L size and cut the bottom of it with scissors. I left it about an inch longer so it drapes down onto the floor. Too long and the magnets don’t close very well. Too short and you’ll have a small gap at the bottom. Just play around with this to get the right length.

The screen attaches to the camper with the included hook & loop (velcro) strips, although I bought more just in case I messed up or needed extra. Add the velcro across the top of the camper and down the sides. Keep going along the side of your truck making sure not to put the velcro where the tailgate closes.

How it works in the field

We’ve had this screen installed for a few months now and I use my truck camper almost daily. It’s held up well and hasn’t needed any adjustments. At first I thought I would only use this for camping, but it turns out the screen is up 100% and super useful. The kids, my wife, and myself have passed through hundreds of times, not carefully, and it closes nicely behind us. Occasionally I look down towards the floor and have to adjust the opening slightly so it’s closed up all the way.
